Common sources of shocks or zaps
Electrical appliances, wiring, plumbing or metal installations may cause a shock or zap, however there are some common ones to keep in mind:
- Metal taps and plumbing
- Power points and light switches
- Outdoor metal structures like sheds, roofing or gutters
- Appliances like a kettle or a toaster
Reducing your risk
We always recommend having a licensed electrical complete any electrical works and regularly check the condition of electrical wiring. You could also consider the following:
- Keep cords in good condition and dispose of any that have frayed or gone brittle.
- Keep broken switches or power points covered until repaired.
- Make sure aerosols and solvents are kept away from switches or sockets.
- Switch off appliances at the wall before unplugging them.
